On Jeffrey Thompson
I grew up just outside Washington, DC and received my BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and have since been dwelling in a rowhouse with my drafting table a cat. I taught courses on Style in Children’s Book Art for the University of San Diego. I reviewed images for half a decade for Shutterstock.
I published my first book, The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, for National Geographic and have worked steadily since its publication as a freelance illustrator.
My editorial work is usually done on scratchboard before being rendered digitally as vectors and I push for an expressionistic feel with these images. My Book Illustrations vary a bit more as I do scratchboard work along with a smooth vector line style. I also produce hand pulled relief and screen prints of my work.
